CASTLEREAGH PARK

Public BBQ

Castlereagh Park sits quietly by the river, offering one of those unpretentious spots that gets the basics refreshingly right. The barbecue facilities are decent quality, always a relief when you're not wrestling with temperamental public equipment, and the undercover seating provides welcome respite from Australia's less forgiving weather moods. What strikes you immediately is the generous grassed area, perfect for a proper kick-about or simply sprawling with a book. The park's real charm, however, lies in its river access. Canoeists will appreciate the thoughtful entry point, while everyone else can enjoy watching the water traffic and admiring views toward the new bridge. Don't expect elaborate playground equipment, there aren't traditional swings here, but families seem to make do quite happily with the open space and barbecue setup. It's the sort of place that proves you don't need bells and whistles to create a perfectly pleasant afternoon by the water.
